Bridges across the Passagassawaukeag River, spanning Belfast Harbor as it empties into Penobscot Bay. Visible across the harbor are the current “Veterans Memorial” bridge built in 1963 as part of the Route 1 bypass and its predecessor Veterans Memorial bridge built in 1921, now the “Armistice Footbridge”. In the foreground is the abutment from the original “Upper Bridge” built in 1805, discontinued in 1921 and removed in 1950. Lining the shores of the river are the Robbins Road on the east side and the Rail Trail (former Belfast & Moosehead Lake Railroad) on the west side.
